The momentum is officially surging at Bender Arena. Coming off a statement win against Bedard 67, the Bucky Benders entered their fourth game of the season with a clear objective: keep the foot on the gas. Facing off against "Minnesota Not Wild," the Benders didn't just meet expectations—they blew them out of the water in a chaotic, high-scoring 11-5 affair that solidified their status as a league powerhouse.
The First Period: A Six-Goal Statement
The opening frame was nothing short of a clinical offensive masterclass. The Benders found the back of the net six times before the first intermission, leaving Minnesota reeling. Captain Salomone set the tone early, picking up his second goal of the campaign on a clean breakaway, coolly sliding the puck five-hole.
Freshman standout Drew Tokheim (affectionately dubbed "Bender Celebrini") also joined the party, delighting the vocal "chopped birds" section in the stands with a relentless offensive presence that would eventually lead to a two-goal night.
The Second Period: The Comeback Scare
Hockey is a game of momentum, and the second period belonged entirely to Minnesota. A rare lapse in the defensive zone by the usually reliable Viktor Mitchell proved costly, ending Luke Rosner’s bid for a shutout and sparking a dangerous run of five unanswered goals by the Wild. Suddenly, what looked like a blowout transformed into a dogfight, testing the Benders' composure under pressure.
The Third Period: Sportsmanship and the "Flu Game"
The final frame returned to Bender dominance, though not without controversy. Early in the period, Minnesota fired a shot that beat Rosner high blocker, pinging off the goal before bouncing back into play. With the lone official caught out of position, the play was initially ruled "no goal" despite heavy protests. The Benders immediately countered, with Nolan Blackburn scoring on the other end.
In a display of elite sportsmanship, captain Salomone approached the officials to correct the call, voluntarily taking their own goal off the board and awarding Minnesota the rightful point. The karma was instant: Blackburn went on a tear, completing a hat trick and finishing with what the locker room is calling "4.5 goals" on the night.
In the dying seconds, Minnesota earned a final breakaway, but Luke Rosner stood tall, turning aside the attempt and finishing the game with his signature "shut the door" celebration to put an exclamation point on the 11-5 victory.
Key Player Highlights
Nolan Blackburn (4.5 Goals): Delivered the "Flu Game" performance of a lifetime, lighting up the arena despite feeling under the weather.
Viktor Mitchell (5 Assists): Served as the primary offensive catalyst, carving up the defense throughout the night. Questionable second period.
Drew Tokheim (2 Goals): The freshman continues to be a massive draw for the "chopped birds" in the stands.
Hans Ridlehoover: (2 Goals, 3 Assists) Cemented his role as the team's most trusted defensive anchor and offensive creator.
Captain Salomone (1 Goal): Continued hot-streak with a clinical five-hole finish on a breakaway.
Luke Rosner (Sievvy Dunne): Secured a first-period shutout and provided a highlight-reel breakaway save in the final seconds.
Captain’s Corner
The story of the night was Nolan Blackburn. After entering the locker room visibly ill and contemplating a night on the bench, Nolan channeled his inner Michael Jordan for a "Flu Game" performance that electrified the team. It was a full-team effort that proves this roster is peaking at the exact right time.
