In a game defined by physical play, clinical finishing, and a bizarre goaltending gambit, the Bucky Benders moved to 3-2 on the season with a hard-fought 5-3 win over Sigma Ligma. With puck-drop at 7:45 PM this Thursday, the Benders proved they could handle the heat of a "must-win" matchup, officially climbing into solo possession of second place in the league standings.

The First Period: Defensive Duel and a Dangerous Edge

The opening frame was a goaltender’s battle. The Benders drew first blood when Viktor Mitchell opened the scoring, cleaning up a beautiful feed from Carson from behind the net. While the scoreboard remained quiet for the rest of the period, the intensity boiled over with four minutes remaining.

A Sigma Ligma player delivered a punishing hit on a Bender—a major infraction in this non-checking league. The resulting 5-minute major penalty put the Benders on a massive man-advantage, but despite heavy pressure, they were unable to capitalize before the buzzer.

The Second Period: Bar-Down Brilliance

The second period belonged to the "Mitch Show." Igniting the Bender bench, Mitchell sniped a "bar-down" beauty right in front of the boys to double the lead. On the other end, Luke Rosner kept the momentum alive with a massive breakaway save that brought the crowd to its feet.

However, Sigma Ligma refused to fade. They mounted a resilient comeback, beating Rosner once over the pad on the blocker side and once five-hole, sending the teams into the final intermission deadlocked at 2-2.

The Third Period: The Hat Trick and the "Skater-Goalie" Chaos

The tie didn't last long. Mitchell wasted no time in the third, potting his third goal of the night to complete the hat trick and regain the lead. Moments later, defenseman Hans Ridlehoover extended the cushion to two with a clinical snipe from the point.

Sigma Ligma managed to claw back within one after a low shot from the blue line found the back of the net—a tough break for Rosner, who caught an edge and couldn't get down in time to make the stop.

With over three minutes remaining, Sigma Ligma opted for an incredibly aggressive strategy: they called a timeout and pulled their goalie. In a rare move, their netminder headed straight for the locker room to swap into skater gear and join the attack as an extra attacker. Despite the 6-on-5 pressure, the Benders' defense stood tall. A late empty-netter sealed the deal, allowing the Benders to coast to a 5-3 finish.

  • Viktor Mitchell (3 Goals): The offensive hero of the night, Mitchell’s hat trick and "bar-down" highlight provided the spark the Benders needed.
